Reinterpreting the Vernacular I Graduation Project 2017

This project, which is located in the Bahariya Oasis in Egypt, addresses the country’s threatened vernacular architectural heritage. The project aim is to bridge the gap between this heritage and contemporary architectural approaches through the design of in-fills and additions to existing structures in the oasis.
The project has won the tenth cycle of OMRANIA I CSBE student award for architectural design among 47 universities in the Arab world. the first graduation project that has won this competition since its first cycle.

Morphological Analysis showing the difference of urban patterns between Vernacular context and Urban sprawl.    
Introducing a dialogue between the old and the new, between the past and the present. 
The focus was also on how to adjust contemporary desert vernacular housing to contemporary life-style demands while still preserving the beneficial aspects of traditional vernacular techniques. The Project applied a practical case study methodology in investigating Bahariya oasis in the Western Desert of Egypt
